Layers...

The function manages the layers of the model. Each row in the table corresponds to a layer. You can:

Filter the list
Change properties of individual and multiple layers
Create new layers
Delete unused layers

Settings, functions and parameters

Type

DDS-CAD manages multiple layer types. which are primarily organized by discipline. The selection filters the layers of the selected type in the table.

Display only those in use

Setting	Effect
	Only the layers are listed in the table that have been actually used in the model.
	All layers are listed in the table that are available for the selected type.

Display all components

Setting	Effect
	Type in addition to the standard types used, additional entries may be required in special case.
	Default setting. Type lists only the types used by default.

Table

The table shows all layers of the selected type with their properties and allows further editing.

Name

Description

Layer names.

Action by clicking on the cell

	Enables entering a new name for the layer.
	Click on an entry to open the context menu with further functions. New Creates a new layer and automatically assigns the name as a numeric code. Rename the new layer. Delete Deletes the selected layer. Rename Enables entering a new name for the layer.

Number

Description

Layer number.

Description

Indicates whether the layer is visible or invisible.

	The objects on this layer are visible in the model and will be included in all export functions.
	The objects on this layers are not visible in the model. When Exporting to DWG/DXF the layer is also included as an invisible layer in the DWG/DXF file and can be made visible again. In the parts list and with export to IFC the objects on this layer are not considered.

Action by clicking on the cell

	The status changes for this layer.
	Click on an entry to open the context menu with further functions. On Turns all selected layers to visible . Off Turns all selected layers to invisible . Inverse Changes the status for all selected layers. All on Turns all layers in the table to visible . All off Turns all layers in the table to invisible . All inverse The status changes for all layers in the table.

Freeze

Description

Indicates whether the layer is frozen or not.

	The layer is not frozen. The objects on this layer are visible in the model and will be included in all export functions.
	The layer is frozen. The objects of this layer are invisible in the model and will not be considered in any of the export functions.

Action by clicking on the cell

	The status changes for this layer.
	Click on an entry to open the context menu with further functions. Freeze Freezes all selected layers . No Freeze Unfreezes all selected layers . Inverse Changes the status for all selected layers.

Lock

Description

Indicates whether the layer enabled or locked for editing.

	The layer is enabled for editing. You can delete, move and change the properties of the objects on this layer.
	The layer is locked for editing. You cannot select any existing objects of this layer for editing, but you can insert new objects in the model.

Action by clicking on the cell

	The status changes for this layer.
	Click on an entry to open the context menu with further functions. Lock Locks all selected layers to changes . Unlock Unlocks all selected layers and allows editing of objects . Inverse Changes the status for all selected layers.

Description

Indicates whether the layer is enable or locked for printing or exporting to PDF.

	The layer is enabled for printing. The objects on this layer are included in the printout or PDF file.
	The layer is locked for printing. The object on this layer are not included in the printout or PDF file.

Action by clicking on the cell

	The status changes for this layer.
	Click on an entry to open the context menu with further functions. Print Enables all selected layers for printing . Don't print Locks all selected layers for printing . Inverse Changes the status for all selected layers.

Layer Pen

Description

Indicates whether all object on the layer are assigned a uniform pen or not.

	The objects on this layer are assigned the pen selected in Pen Def.. The selection of an individual pen for the object is blocked .
	The objects on this layer do not use the same pen. You can select an individual pen for each individual object.

Action by clicking on the cell

	The status changes for this layer.
	Click on an entry to open the context menu with further functions. Force Forces all objects on the selected layer to use the selected pen at Pen Def. . No force Allows an individual pen selection for the objects on the selected layer . Inverse Changes the status for all selected layers.

Pen Def.

Description

Pen definitions of the layers for the case that all objects of the layer should be enforced to use a single pen setting. If the cell is empty, the default layer pen is applied (default setting for DDS-CAD). The setting is only effective if Layer Pen is active ().

Action by clicking on the cell

	Opens the dialog Select Pen.
	Click on an entry to open the context menu with further functions. Default Deletes the selected pen settings from the cell. The default pen applies to the objects on that layer (DDS-CAD default setting). Referenz Opens the dialog Select Pen.

Layer setup

What is a layer group?

Often used combination of visible and hidden layers that are stored for repeated use. Using layer groups saves time when a frequent change between different combinations of visible and hidden layers is necessary.
