Install and configure DDS-CAD

You install DDS-CAD by running through the routine completely on each workstation.

At the workstation:

1. Start after download

   Start DDS-CAD_16.exe by double-clicking .

   Start from DVD

   Place the DVD in the drive. The installation program starts automatically.

   If the program does not start automatically: Select the "Install.exe" file on the DVD by double-clicking it.

   The dialog appears:
   Select market and language for DDS-CAD

2. Select the desired language and click on OK.

   This setting defines the user interface language and activates system data for the selected language region (product databases, symbol libraries). The main dialog for selecting the installation method appears.

1. Activate the tab:
   Standard Setup

2. Click Start Installation.

   The installation routine starts. The display shows:
   DDS-CAD 16 InstallShield wizard
   

1. Check that the conditions are met:

   • Do NOT insert the dongle before the installation in order to ensure installation of the correct driver.
     DDS-CAD only starts with a correctly installed dongle driver. If the dongle is connected to the computer too early, Windows may install an incorrect driver.
   • Activate the administrator rights to avoid restrictions due to a missing write permission.
   • Close Windows and backup programs.
   • Disable the virus scanner.

2. Click Next .

   Customer Information

1. Enter your user data.
   The data are stored in the projects. On title blocks, you appear as a suggestion in the field for the author of the drawing. In error reports to DDS, the data are used for orientation and for initiating contact.
2. Define the authorization for access to DDS-CAD.

3. Click Next .

   Customer Involvement Program

The Customer Involvement Program (CIP) is a project for monitoring product quality and stability under real operating conditions. We collect anonymized data, the evaluation of which is aimed at key points for product development.

1. Make a decision about participation in the CIP.

   • Read the privacy statement online
   • This is how to change the setting later on.

2. Click Next .

   Continuation of the routine via query:
   Locations

1. Define the paths for installation and configuration.

   Important!

   Do not use UNC paths (server share such as \\server name\directory\).

   Use assigned drive letters.

   Program files

   Where should the program be installed?

   User files

   Where should data such as company logo, own products and symbols be stored?

   • Use a storage location that is available for all DDS-CAD workstations.
   • This setting can be corrected afterwards. You can manage multiple USER directories.
   Projects

   Where should your projects be stored?

   • Use a storage location that is available for all DDS-CAD workstations.
   • This setting can be corrected afterwards. You can manage multiple storage locations for projects.

   Important!

   DO NOT use synchronization services (e.g. Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox), sync or cloud tools from NAS systems, Microsoft DFS, Puresync or other related software.

   The data within a project folder are referenced to each other. Synchronization can cause inconsistencies and thus errors in the project.

2. Existing User folder from previous DDS-CAD version

   / copy to DDS-CAD 16

   If you are already using an earlier version of DDS-CAD, you can decide about using the existing User data. We recommend applying the data as the normal case.

   Reject applying the data if the database is very old and no longer seems useful.

3. Click Next .

   Continuation of the routine via query:

1. Specify which shortcuts should be created.

2. Define:

   • Role of this workstation - defines access to building model

3. Click Next .

To check settings:

Click Back.

To start the installation:

Click Install.

The installation starts. The process takes a few minutes.

The installation of DDS-CAD is finished on this workstation. If your operating system is up to date, you can continue directly:

For a license check by a single-user dongle:

Plug the dongle into the USB interface. You can start DDS-CAD.

For a license check by a network dongle:

You install DDS-CAD by configuring a master setup on a network drive and then calling it up through the workstations.

On the server:

1. Start after download

   The routine for Step I starts. The display shows:

Click Next .

Select Destination Location

1. Define a path that is accessible for all workstations.

2. Click Next .

   Execution of the copy operation. Completion with the message:
   Master setup on network drive
   

Click Finish.

The routine is ended. After a few seconds the main dialog of the setup program appears.

The master setup is the prepared configuration of a complete setup which is then used by all workstations to install DDS-CAD.

Click Start configuration.

The routine for Step II starts. The display shows:
InstallShield wizard

The following settings apply to all workstations where you use this master setup.

   The master setup generates a copy template for DDS-CAD-related data (projects, user data, initialization files). When a course participant logs on to their workstation for the first time and starts DDS-CAD, this data is set up on the user's home drive.

   Where should the copy template be saved? Select a storage location that is accessible to all workstations.

2. Click Next .

The configuration of the master setup is finished.

1. Define:

   /Show progress of SilentInstall.exe.

   Setting	Effect
   	During installation on the workstations, a progress bar indicates the work status.
   	The installation on the workstations takes place in the background, without any perceptible indication.

2. Click Finish.

   The routine is terminated. After a few seconds, the main dialog of the setup program appears.
   

The preparations for the installation of the workstations have been completed. You can exit the installation program.

Click Exit .

At the workstation:

1. If Application environment=Education:

   Log on as an administrator. with the name of the course participant.

2. Start Windows Explorer.
3. Navigate to the network drive from Step 4) and open the directory created there (here: DDS-Netdeploy).

4. Execute the file SilentInstall.exe. The prepared master setup is executed on this workstation.
   The display of the progress bar depends on the status of the setting /Show progress of SilentInstall.exe. (Step 14).

   The process takes a few minutes. After that the installation of DDS-CAD is finished on this workstation. If your operating system is up to date, you can continue directly.

   If your operating system is not up-to-date, it may be necessary to restart the computer. In this case, a prompt appears. Perform this step before you continue your work.

   For a license check by a single-user dongle:

   The workplace is ready for the login of the course participant. Plug the dongle into the USB interface. You can start DDS-CAD.

   For a license check by a network dongle:

Standard variant in which each workstation receives a local dongle.

• Included in the license price.
• Each workstation can work with DDS-CAD independently of a network.
• Each workstation requires its own license.

A special network dongle is attached to a Dongle server and controls access to DDS-CAD via the network. If the number of permitted accesses contained in the license is reached, the network dongle blocks the start of DDS-CAD on additional workstations. Access is enabled again as soon as DDS-CAD is closed on another workstation.

• You only need a number of licenses equal to the number of simultaneous accesses required.
• Connection via VPN possible.
• Not included in the license price.
• DDS-CAD does not start or logs out when the workstation is disconnected from the network.

The computer intended as the dongle server must be available in the network at all times. Additional functions (e.g. as a data server, mail server) are not necessary.

1. Activate the tab:
   Dongle Server
2. Click Install Dongle Server.
   

Click Next.

1. Activate: I accept the terms in the license agreement
   
2. Click Next.
   

1. Activate: Complete
   
2. Click Next.
   

Click Install.

The installation is executed. A message about necessary changes to the firewall appears.

Click Yes.
The installation is finished.

Click Finish.

At the workstation:

1. Start DDS-CAD. The dialog appears:
   License check failure
2. Click Options. The dialog appears:
   Edit options for dongle

At the workstation:

Click OK.

1. Activate the tab:
   Sentinel SuperPro
2. Activate: Manual network:
3. Enter the IP address of the dongle server.
4. Click OK.
   The dialog appears:
   License check failure

Click Repeat. DDS-CAD starts.
